If you, like me, have been suffering from psoriasis for years, then you know that there is no real cure. Also, like me, I imagine you’ve tried all kinds of psoriasis treatments, some work, some don’t but whatever the outcome, the results, if any, are short lived.
Now I also have a personal quirk – I don’t like using steroids or hormones and I definitely don’t want to try out any artificial substances that claim to provide relief from psoriasis, eczema or rheumatism.
That’s why, when I read a series of articles about the excellent affect a series of treatments at the Dead Sea has on the symptoms of psoriasis, I was very interested in finding out more. I consulted my dermatologist who has been treating my psoriasis for years and he confirmed that the healing affects of the Dead Sea water, mud packs and low UV sunlight have shown remarkable results. He stressed that it wasn’t a cure but that he had seen research that pointed to a remission period of up to nine months before the signs of psoriasis began to return.
Encouraged that maybe, at last, I had found the treatment that I have been looking for, I “Googled” the subjects and came across a whole load of articles and research papers dealing with psoriasis and the Dead Sea. All, with no exception, confirmed what my dermatologist had told me, that the effects of a course of treatment at a Dead Sea spa on psoriasis, eczema and rheumatism where phenomenal and lasted for up to nine months!
That was all I needed to know. I went to a travel agent and booked a series of treatments at hotel spa on the Dead Sea and then found out that my insurance covered some of the costs! That was five months ago – my skin looks fresh and clean, there are no signs of the and I am living life like I never have before.
One thing is for sure – this was my first visit for treatments at the Dead Sea, it won’t be my last!
Do you, like me, suffer from psoriasis? Have the all too obvious symptoms of psoriasis like areas of dry skin, been a cause for embarrassment? Has psoriasis affected your self confidence and your ability to lead a normal life?
These are questions that, for me, until a few years ago, the answer to all would have been a resounding YES! Because of recurring outbreaks of psoriasis, I hardly ever went to the beach, stayed at home when my friends went out clubbing and let the psoriasis control my life – negatively!
And then I was rescued! I’m not exaggerating, because something my dermatologist suggested turned my life around and all within the space of two months.
A wonder drug – no, a wondrous place!
After years of psoriasis treatments I was fed up! Fed up with creams and drugs, health farms and lotions, fed up with diets and all sorts of wonder treatments that promised “instant relief” from psoriasis.
Finally my dermatologist suggested the Dead Sea and the 100% natural psoriasis treatments. I know, the name is a bit off putting but it really should be called the Sea of Renewed Life because that what it did for me.
Rest, relaxation and relief!
The Dead Sea is unique in a number of ways. It’s famous for being the lowest spot on the face of the earth but also for having one of the saltiest bodies of water as well. The water and the mud are rich in minerals and salts, the atmosphere is dry and free from pollutants and allergens and the desert sun has most of the harmful UV rays filtered out by the atmosphere – perfect conditions for treating !
I spent three weeks at a luxury hotel at the Dead Sea. On average, I spent three to four hours a day bathing in the water, having mud packs placed on the areas affected by the psoriasis as well as others and lounging in the sun. Within less than a week, my skin looked fresher and cleaner than it had for years. Within two weeks, all signs of the had disappeared and by the end of my stay, I was permanently in my bikini for the first time in years.
Now I know this isn’t a permanent cure – there isn’t one! But, for almost nine month after I came home, there were no signs of the psoriasis. Then, when it did begin to reappear, it was less violent and developed much slower.
Because of the Dead Sea psoriasis treatments, my life has changed for the better! I go out; I’m self confident and not embarrassed by my body or the psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that primarily affects joints and skin. Psoriasis is non-contagious and usually manifests itself in patients between the ages of 15 to 40. However, once psoriasis appears, it is a disease that will be with the patients for the rest of their lives. Psoriasis manifests itself in the form of dry, scaly skin, unsightly rashes and some discomfort – soreness and itching. In severe cases of psoriasis, the skin can crack and even bleed. The severity of the disease varies from patient to patient – it may occur in relatively small areas of the body but can also affect large areas of skin. The causes of psoriasis are not known but it is thought that genetics and stress may have some bearing on the outbreak of the diseaseWhile many treatments that ease or retard the disease’s progress do exist, there is no known permanent cure for psoriasis.
Psoriasis Variants
Plaque Psoriasis: Over 80% of patients have plaque psoriasis which evident itself by red or silvery build-ups of skin. Primarily occurs on the elbows and knees but can also affect the scalp or the genital area.
Inverse Psoriasis: tend to appear in the armpits, in areas with folds of skin and also the groin.
Guttate Psoriasis: manifests itself in the form of small red spots covering areas of skin.
Erythrodermic Psoriasis: Cause red patches on the skin. The infected areas can be painful and result in excessive itching.
Pustular Psoriasis: Causes white blisters, usually surrounded by areas of red skin.
Psoriasis Treatment

Treatment regimes include:
Topical treatment: creams and lotions are applied to affected areas. Some of this medicines are natural, some artificial and some a combination of the two. Always consult your physician or dermatologist before using unknown substances.
Phototherapy: or the exposure of the affected areas to UV rays, usually in a solarium or through the use of UV projectors. These treatments must be medically supervised and approved.
Systemic treatments: involves the use or oral orintravenous medication – always administered by a qualified medical practitioner!
Climatotherapy: refers to treatments for in an area where climatic and other factors give a therapeutic and healing benefit – such as the Dead Sea. Climatotherapy is a process that can take anywhere from a week to a month. The results of climatotherapy, especially at the Dead Sea, have been shown to be extraordinarily effective in combating the ravages of psoriasis and in retarding its reappearance.
A red rash creates discomfort and awkwardness socially. Tbe underlying causes of rashes can include bacterial infections, viruses, allergic responses, contact dermatitis, anxiety, fungus and other reasons. The appearance can be patches, red bumps or welts accompanied with mild to severe itching of the skin. Depending on the rash, you may get prescribed steroids or be able to use over the counter items such as calamine lotion, antihistamine creams or medicated moisturizers. There are also natural remedies that people turn to for skin rash problems. Be sure to determine the cause of the rash. If you
have a bacterial infection or fever, it’s important to find out if you need an antibiotic to treat the infection. Certain rashes are contagious and they need to be treated to avoid infecting others.
Herbs have been used in the east as well as by many cultures for centuries to treat various skin disorders as well as other health situations. The internal or external use of certain herbs can provide blessed relief from the discomfort of a rash. You can take herbal capsules, eat the herb raw, or take it as a tincture or a tea. Stinging nettles are good for rashes caused by allergies, for example. Lemon balm, lavender, mullein, and licorice root are all good for helping with the discomfort, as well. You can also use soothing creams that have these herbs as main ingredients for instant relief. Always check with your physician before engaging with a natural method of healing to see if it is medically advised. Some people can have allergic reactions to different herbs or it may conflict with a medical condition.
You can use herbs in the form of poultices, as well. Fresh or dried herbs are appropriate for this method. Basically, you chop up a cup or so of the herb you think is best for your condition, then wet the mound with hot water. Spread the wet herb mash on a piece of clean cotton cloth and apply to the rash, herb side down. This can bring relief within a short amount of time. Lavender is a very good herb for a poultice, as is mullein. Leave the poultice on until you start to feel relief.
A compress also works well for annoying rashes. It’s similar to a poultice, except you soak a cloth in water that has been infused with a tincture or tea made from the herb of your choice. Then, wring out the cloth and apply it to your rash. Make sure the water you use is warm for best results. If you have any questions about other good herbs for your rash, you can find that information online or in herb books. There are literally dozens of herbs that have been used over the ages. Other natural approaches for rashes include using oils such as flax seed, olive oil and coconut oils on the skin or internally. Both the omega 3 and omega 6 groups are found to be an aid in skin healing.

Depression & Self Esteem Sleep-deprived children have longer illnesses, more severe depression, and greater fatigue than those who aren’t sleep deprived. Other studies link sleep deprivation with self esteem problems as well. Getting good sleep and curing insomnia helps with fight depression and increase self esteem.
Beauty Rest is Fiction Alex Gardner of the British Psychological Society and emeritus professor of dermatology Ronnie Marks of the University of Wales found that sleep deprivation did not alter study participants’ physical appearance. However, the study participants who were sleep deprived felt self-conscious about their appearance and thought their skin showed their lack of rest. They were convinced their looks were affected by their lack of sleep, even though they looked the same as when they were rested. Getting good sleep makes you feel better about yourself. Sleep deprivation can lower your self esteem.
Weight Gain If you’re losing sleep your body mass index (BMI) is likely to increase, and so is your waist circumference. Your risk of becoming obese is almost doubled, according to Professor Francesco Cappuccio of Warwick Medical School. He detected this trend in adults and kids as young as five years old. Getting good sleep can help you lose weight. Sleep deprivation increases appetite through hormonal changes. Specifically, more of the appetite-increasing ghrelin is produced when you’re not getting good sleep; less of the appetite-suppressing leptin is produced. Sleep deprivation and insomnia naturally causes you to eat more.
Memory Loss Dr. Jeffrey Ellenbogen of the Harvard Medical School found that “sleep protects memories from interference.” The more quickly you fall asleep after studying for a test or learning a new skill, the more likely you’ll remember it later. If you learn new information and then go about your daily business, you’ll have about a 44% lower chance of retaining what you’ve learned. This research could be particularly helpful when you’re learning a new job. Getting good sleep helps your memory, while sleep deprivation damages it.
Intellectual Impairment Researchers at the University of Virginia have found that insomnia or lack of sleep can impair IQ and cognitive development in children. Lower grades and poor peer relations could also result from sleep deprivation. Getting good sleep increases cognitive ability.
Physical Impairment According to the National Sleep Foundation, your body does show the effects when you’re not getting good sleep. Your coordination and motor functions may be impaired, and your reaction time may be delayed. You could have reduced cardiovascular performance, reduced endurance, and increased levels of fatigue because of sleep deprivation. Tremors and clumsiness can also result if you’re not getting good sleep.
So now decide to go to bed early by following the below mentioned steps everyday. •For most of the people who go to bed late it’s mostly a problem of mentality. You look at the clock and think “02:00? Oh, no problem, I’ve still got plenty of time”. No, you don’t. When you make it a habit to go to bed way past midnight, your idea of late becomes an increasingly later hour. So, the next time you look at the clock and see it’s past 23:30 (or any time you’d consider ‘early’), abandon everything you were doing at that time and start hurrying to go to bed. The first step in starting to go to bed early is redefining your idea of ‘early’ and ‘late’.
•One good incentive is recalling a time (or several) when your lateness in getting to bed had disastrous results: you overslept, didn’t get enough sleep, became sick, etc. Also, if you’re a habitual late-nighter (e.g. college student), this will give you a chance to see that rarest of natural phenomena: a sunrise!
•Most of the time I wake-up at 7:00, but sometimes I wake-up at 6:00 to do homework” isn’t a good answer. If you planned on waking up at 6 then you would think that going to bed an hour earlier would make up for it, but you wouldn’t be tired at said bedtime, so you would lay in bed for an hour and only get 7 hours of sleep. Your wake-up time needs to be the same every day except for rare occasions. Weekends are not rare.
•Determine how long it actually takes you to fall asleep. Don’t glance at the alarm clock constantly to test this, just think whether you lay in bed for what seems for hours, or does your head barely hit the pillow? If the first one is the case you should subtract on hour from the time you have. If your head barely hits the pillow you only need about five minutes in bed before your -8 hour time. If you’re somewhere in between 30 minutes should be a safe amount of time to be in bed before you need to fall asleep.
•The computer may be calming but your brain naturally makes you sleepy when it is dark, so by staring at a screen you are keeping yourself alert and wide-awake for longer than you should. A shower is an excellent thing to do before bed. Make your activity a sort of ritual. This helps.
•The best time to go to bed is when you can’t stop yawning and feel the need to just close your eyes and lay your head down. If you force yourself to stay awake, after this stage is over, you’ll have a slight headache because of tiredness, but stop feeling that urge to go to sleep, which makes you stay awake even more.
•Force yourself to turn off the computer and TV before bed. By turning off the computer (not the monitor) you would have to wait for it to reboot and normally that is enough to persuade you to get off the computer. Throw the remote for your TV across the room or onto the floor (gently). Getting up to turn on the TV hardly seems worth it, huh?
•After you have been following a bed time for a week or so,

A chronic disorder known as rosacea is a skin disease and it commonly affects skin of the face. For successful and easy way of treating it, early diagnosis is very important. Patients with this disease are usually not formally diagnosed as there is no specific test which would help in confirming the diagnosis. Most of the cases are diagnosed by experienced and trained health professionals, which confirm presence of the disease by inspection. In rare cases of the disease when skin redness is present in less common parts of the face, a common treatment is used until presence of rosacea is confirmed. Symptoms of this disease can be confused with other skin diseases such as acne vulgaris.
Treatment of rosacea differs patient to patient because people may be allergic to a medicine and for this reason another medicine is advisable. Treatment also differs according to sub-types of the disease. Some people can be completely cured with the help of long time medication while in other cases patients have to take medicines for the rest of their lives. There are three basic forms of treatment for this disease which are behavioral adaptations, medications, and laser.
Behavioral adaptations are of a lot of help to reduce onset of the disease. Sunlight is the most common trigger for onset of the disease so excessive exposure to sun should be avoided. Some people use sunscreen creams for this purpose while others always wear a hat. Patients with eyelid infections should take hygienic measures for eyelids. Eyelids should be cleaned with the help of a baby shampoo, several times a day.
Medications are frequently used for treatment of this disease and they mainly include antibiotics. Tetracycline can be used as oral antibiotics and a topical antibiotic like metronidazole should be applied on affected areas of the skin. This medication helps to relieve redness of skin, pimples and inflammation. Inflammatory lesions can be cured by the use of azelaic acid. Blushing of skin can be treated by the use of beta-blockers. Anti-histamines have no role in diminishing symptoms of rosacea. Sulfur is safely applied on skin for termination of skin redness. Recently a chemical compound of sulfur has been introduced as a medicine in the market.
Dermatological vascular laser is widely used for treatment of this disease. Laser rays damage the capillary walls which are then destroyed by body’s natural defense system. In this way all the superficial capillaries of skin are removed to get rid of redness permanently.
