Discover the Best Prenatal Omega 3

Did you know that prenatal omega 3 fatty acid intake should be higher than what is recommended for non-pregnant women?  A woman’s needs are also higher when she is breast feeding.  If her dietary needs for DHA are not met, she could experience a variety of health problems.

DHA or Docosahexaenoic acid is an omega-3 that is essential for normal brain development in the fetus and in the infant.  It continues to be important throughout a person’s life.  A lack of it throughout a person’s life could be one of the causes of Alzheimer’s.  Research concerning that is currently ongoing.

DHA is naturally present in human breast milk.  Many infant formulas are now fortified with it, too.  For years, studies had shown that breast fed babies developed cognitive functions faster than formula fed infants.  It was only recently that DHA was isolated as the difference.  It is not present in cow’s milk or soy products.

In fact, the only real dietary source of DHA is fish.  If a woman does not eat fish on a regular basis, her blood levels will be low.  Her body will make sure that the baby gets enough, but her own health could fail.

Some studies indicate that taking prenatal omega 3 supplements could reduce a woman’s risk of post-partum depression.  Low levels of DHA in the bloodstream have long been associated with depressive disorders.  A woman’s blood level of DHA is extremely low right after delivery.  So, it stands to reason that a lack of DHA plays a role in post-partum depression.

There is always concern when a woman that suffers from depression becomes pregnant.  If she is taking anti-depressant drugs, her baby has a greater risk of certain kinds of congenital heart defects.  But, being depressed during pregnancy is dangerous, too.

It is hoped that prenatal omega 3 supplements may help.  Studies indicate that it helps with other things, as well.

Babies born to mothers that got enough omega-3s during pregnancy have a reduced risk of asthma and allergies.  The same is true of breast-fed children.

Other studies have shown that the babies develop their visual acuity faster, when their mom’s got plenty of DHA.  Not only is it found in the brain, it is also found in the back of the eye.  A recent study concluded that high intake of DHA throughout a person’s life decreases their risk of age-related macular degeneration, the most common cause of blindness in the elderly.

If you do decide to take a prenatal omega 3 supplement, you should check out the manufacturer’s standards for purity and freshness.  You don’t want to be exposed to mercury or other contaminants and a spoiled supplement could make you ill.

You should also follow the manufacturer’s directions concerning dosage, unless your doctor has made a specific recommendation.  More is not better when it comes to dietary supplements.

In conclusion, there are likely other benefits of prenatal omega 3 supplements.  The ones mentioned here are those that have been the subjects of numerous studies.  We’re sure the nutrient is important for you and your baby.

Discover Help for Post Partum Depression

If you’re like me, you have probably heard about many of the wonderful benefits there are to be gained through the use of omega-3 fatty acid supplements, but very little is mentioned about its effectiveness in treating post partum depression.  Depression is something that affects a great many women after the birth of their child, and there is very little that can be done about it except for prescribing questionable prescription drugs.

Although omega-3 fatty acids have been proven effective in treating a wealth of mood altering mental disorders most doctors will not recommend it as a treatment.  They would rather prescribe you something that has a slew of side effects, and that are sometimes addictive depending on the individual.  Do you really want to submit to putting such substances into your body if you really don’t have to?

Post partum depression is very serious, and the feelings that women have while going through it can often lead them to thoughts of suicide at what should be one of the happiest times of their lives.  I know that anyone going through this experience would want to take anything that they could that would make it stop.  Especially if you are breast feeding your child you need to think about what you are doing.

Whatever goes into a mother’s system goes into the infants through the breast milk that they ingest.  This means that whatever addictive agent is in your chemical antidepressant is also traversing its way through your infant’s blood.  Do you really want to subject your infant to this, when there are literally hundreds of clinical studies proving that your depression can be treated without any risk to you, or your baby?

DHA, which is a particularly effective omega-3 fatty acid, is often deficient in the frontal cortex of the brain in women suffering from post partum depression.  It has been proven time and time again that deficiencies in DHA can cause all manner of problems relating to behavior, such as aggression, hostility, depression, and displays of suicidal tendencies.  Simply increasing your DHA could be the answer to all of your problems.

  1. DHA is a prominent factor in the cognitive development of a child.

Attaining high levels of DHA in your blood, especially during the third trimester when the most important cognitive development is taking place, is extremely important.  Even if you never eventually suffer from symptoms of post partum depression, your child will be born with higher intelligence, better problem solving, reasoning skills and superior visual acuity than infants born with DHA deficiencies.

Make no mistake about it.  You need DHA rich omega fatty acids for the treatment of post partum depression, and even if you don’t think that it’s going to help you it can be of great benefit to your child.  What could it hurt to give it a try?

Nutrition During Pregnancy – Do Not Miss This Essential Nutrient

You’ve probably heard it a hundred times. You need to take a lot of nutrients during pregnancy, have a balanced diet, eat more proteins and so on. Yet so many people miss out on this one essential substance without which nutrition during pregnancy is actually incomplete.

While the basic rules of having a healthy and balanced diet do apply to nutrition during pregnancy, there is one more nutrient you should be taking to ensure the proper brain development of your child.

These are the Omega 3 fats found in fish oil. Specifically the two fats – DHA and EPA are very beneficial for your health.

For the baby, DHA especially helps in proper development of the brain. Over 30% of the human brain is made up of DHA fats. This fact alone should prove how important this nutrient is for the health and efficiency of the brain.

If there is a deficiency of DHA during pregnancy, the child tends to have a lower IQ, behavioral problems and aggression later in her life. This is something that can be easily avoided by ensuring an adequate intake of DHA and EPA during pregnancy.

One way of taking these oils is to directly consume fish as a part of your diet. Just remember that not all fish contain enough or even any DHA and EPA fats. Salmon and Mackerel are two fish that do have them.

An even better choice is the Hoki fish from New Zealand. It has the right proportion of DHA and EPA fats in its oil and so this makes it the ideal candidate for our purposes here.

Sourcing this fish would not be so easy. A much better and easier option for ensuring nutrition during pregnancy is to take a fish oil supplement derived from this fish.

See, ocean waters all over the world are loaded with industrial waste. These contaminants sooner or later make their way into the fish also. If you eat these fish, then you would also be consuming the contaminants along with it. This can prove to be harmful for your health.

If you take a supplement that contains purified oil, this risk can be completely avoided. It will also be much easier to take a couple of fish oil gels a day instead of consuming large quantities of fish in every meal.

Do yourself a favor and ensure proper nutrition during pregnancy by taking a DHA rich oil regularly. This one simple step can provide a lifetime of benefits to you child. Visit my website now to know how to choose the right oil.

Omega 3 And Brain Development – Does It Really Help?

Omega 3 and Brain
Use it or lose it. This is what experts say about our brain. The more we use it and keep it active, the better it will perform and will remain healthy. But did you know there is something else too that is very effective at ensuring your brain’s health and well being?

Omega 3 and brain health are very closely linked. Numerous studies have proven that increasing the intake of omega 3 fats helps in improving memory and focus, benefits cognitive function and the nerve transmission process.

Omega 3 also helps in preventing Alzheimer’s disease. In children, lower levels of these fats have been linked with a lower IQ, aggression, ADHD and dyslexia.

Increasing omega 3 intake helps increase the serotonin levels in the brain and keeps depression at bay.

In short, taking more of these fats is the best thing you can do to keep your brain running in top form.

Now let’s find out what is the best source of this nutrient.

Flax seed oil is one source of omega 3 fats. It contains ALA fat inside. ALA is internally converted by our body into DHA and EPA fats and then it is able to derive the health benefits from it. This is not an efficient process and only about 5% to 25% fat is able to get converted.

It makes sense then to directly focus our efforts to take DHA and EPA fats through our diet.

Fish like Salmon, Mackerel and Hoki are amongst the best sources of these two fats. In case you’re wondering, the Hoki is a fish found in the pristine waters of the southern coast of New Zealand.

It contains high quantities of DHA and EPA and is free from any contaminants too due to the clean ocean waters there.

One option of taking these fats is to directly eat these fish as a part of your regular diet. This is easier said than done as not only would it quickly become monotonous, but expensive too.

A much easier option to get omega 3 and brain benefits is to take a fish oil supplement derived from these DHA rich fish. In less than the cost of one meal of fish, you can get a month’s supply of the supplement.

Your next step? To take what you’ve learned and get omega 3 and brain benefits from the right fish oil. Visit my website for more information.

Discover Fish Oil Health Benefits

Have you read about this recently?  In a recent article written by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, scientist discuss the fish oil health benefits for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and whether it is wiser to eat seafood or take a supplement.  Some research groups recommend eating more seafood.  Others recommend taking a supplement.  A few recommend both.

For example, if you happen to be a pregnant woman, researchers have recommended that you eat two servings of low-mercury seafood per week and take a supplement that provides at least 500mg of DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) every day, as well as your regular pre-natal vitamin.  That recommendation is made, because DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid found only in seafood and some types of marine algae, is essential for normal brain and eye development in the fetus.

If you do enjoy seafood, you should check out the consumption advisories published by the Environmental Defense Fund, the CDC and the EPA.  Some species should be eaten no more than once per month.  Some should be avoided entirely.

Women and children are most susceptible to the mercury and PCB content.  But, men should be careful, too.  Too many PCBs can increase the risk of cancer.

The fish oil health benefits cannot counteract the negative effects of consuming mercury or PCBs, but supplement manufacturers can have each batch of oils tested for those contaminants, insuring that none are present.  It is not possible to test every piece of seafood for contaminants, because testing destroys the food.

So, when advisories are made, it is just a “guesstimate”.  There is no way to be certain which species are safe and which are not.  One serving could have two or three times the contaminants present in another.

The North Carolina researchers concluded that more research is needed to investigate the fish oil health benefits, the potential adverse effects of certain species and how cooking affects the nutritional value.  If you read much of the scientific research, you will see that one of the most common conclusions is that more research is needed.

Continuing research is important in order to arrive at specific dosage recommendations.  It will also be necessary if US residents are ever to be aware of all of the fish oil health benefits.  The FDA will not sign off on health claims associated with nutritional supplements, unless there is more research.

Preventing over-stated and unverifiable claims that could be misleading is an important job for the FDA.  But, sometimes, they seem to overdo it.  For example, the company that makes Nyquil added vitamin C to their cold relief formula, without first receiving approval from the FDA.

The FDA told them to change the formula, because there is no “proof” that vitamin C helps people recover from a cold more quickly.  There is no proof that alcohol, which is the main ingredient in Nyquil, helps people recover from a cold, either.  It just helps them sleep.

Discover Refined Fish Oil

Did you know refined fish oil has been used since the days of the Vikings as a food supplement and for medicinal purposes?  The oils were primarily recommended, at that time, to increase bowel motility and to reduce joint pain.

Just 50 years ago, the supplements were recommended for those same purposes.  Moms also gave it to their children to help reduce the risk of rickets and vitamin A deficiency, because those nutrients were present in the oils, as well.

Many brands are no longer sources of vitamin A or D.  The concern is that too much vitamin A can be toxic, especially to children.  Oils that are derived from the liver (cod liver oil, for example) contain too much vitamin A for children and for pregnant women.  Too much vitamin A causes birth defects.

Vitamin D is only found in some species of fish.  If the brand you are thinking about buying is a good source of vitamin D, it should be listed on the nutrient facts label, located on the back of the bottle.

Research indicates that vitamin D deficiency is on the rise, among people of all ages, regardless of whether they are underweight or obese.  So, it’s a good idea to be sure to get enough of that nutrient, but refined fish oil is not your best choice for increasing your vitamin D intake.  Cholecalciferol or D3 is the most readily absorbable form of the nutrient, other than the type that you skin makes when you are exposed to UV rays from the sun.

The nutrients that are provided by refined fish oil are two that are largely absent in the modern-day diet.  They are Docosahexaenoic acid and Eicosapentaenoic acid; DHA and EPA.

DHA and EPA are long-chained polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids.  They are not found in vegetable oils or plant foods.  At one time, they may have been present in the wild game that people ate.  But, today, they are found only in fish.

DHA is found in some types of marine algae, but the algae supplements do not contain EPA.  Both are important, according to research.

One of the benefits of increased omega-3 intake is a reduced risk of depression.  In different studies DHA alone, EPA alone and a combination of the two fatty acids were used.  The best results were seen when volunteers were given both EPA and DHA.

So, other than eating oily fish, such as salmon, mackerel or sardines, the only way to get EPA and DHA in the diet is by taking a refine fish oil supplement.  Of course, all supplements are not the same and you need to shop with care.  But, if you choose a good brand, you could reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer and a variety of seemingly age-related diseases.

From what we have learned, it isn’t about age, itself.  People get older without suffering from disease.  It’s about small amounts of damage that occur on a molecular level, every day of a person’s life.  We can’t stop the damage completely.  But, with refined fish oil and a healthy lifestyle, we should be able to keep it to a minimum.

Honest Fish Oil Reviews

Let’s face it.  There have literally been thousands of fish oil reviews conducted over the course of the last 70 years or so, that have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that omega-3 fatty acids are a tremendous boon to your health.  These anti-inflammatory nutrients have the ability to prevent some of the most serious ailments that we face, and to aid in the treatment of many others.

There is more than one type of omega fatty acid, with n-3 and n-6 fatty acids being predominant.  The reason that these essential nutrients were given the name fatty acids is that early on researchers found that they were essential to the normal growth of children and young animals.  It was discovered that both the n-3 and the n-6 fatty acids played a similar role in normal growth.

However, it was decided that more fish oil reviews needed to be conducted into the n-6 fatty acids at the time, because they were seen to play a much greater role in dermal integrity, renal function, and parturition.  It wasn’t until quite some time later that the n-3 fatty acids began to be studied in earnest, and that was when it was finally seen that they were the more important nutrient.

What was discovered about n-6s is that arachidonic acid is converted by the body into pro-inflammatory agents known as eicosanoids, which can be broken down into prostaglandins, thromboxanes, prostacyclins, and leukotrienes.  Eicosanoids have important biological functions, and their short life spans begin with synthesis from fatty acids and end in metabolism by enzymes.

Fish oil reviews have shown that if the rate of synthesis exceeds the rate of metabolism then the excess eicosanoids have a harmful effect on the body.  Omega-3 fatty acids are also converted into eicosanoids, only at a much slower rate.  Omega-3 eicosanoids are less inflammatory that n-6 eicosanoids are, and the two sets of omega fatty acids actually compete to be transformed.

You want the positive inflammatory features of the n-3 fatty acids to win out over the potentially harmful n-6 fatty acids, but in order to ensure that your body has a better chance for remaining healthy your intake of omega-3s must be much higher.  Any negative effect from an n-6 eicosanoid can be voided by the presence of an n-3 eicosanoid, which is very important to your body.

Fish oil reviews have noted that n-6 thromboxane is a significant factor in the clumping of platelets which leads to clotting.  The leukotrienes are important to the immune/inflammatory response system, which means that they are relevant to arthritis, asthma, and lupus.  Omega-3’s form anti-inflammatory molecules called resolvins, maresins, and omega-3 oxylipins, which explain the versatile health benefits of fish oil.

Make no mistake about it.  Fish oil reviews have proven that these anti-inflammatory omega-3 molecules act as preventative agents when it comes to such things as cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and they are suspected of having a positive effect in the prevention of certain types of cancer as well.  Making sure that your body has an ample supply of DHA and EPA rich omega-3 fatty acids could mean all the difference when it comes to your health.

BioCare: Supplements For Digestive Health

BioCare have been committed to research into digestive health for many years and have produced a wide range of enzymes to help deal with digestive health problems.

So many people have problems with digestion. It may be lactose intolerance, other allergies, irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease, just to name a few.

There are so many supplements on the market promising great health, it is difficult to see if one will help you or a condition you may have. When it comes to digestion, there are some that may offer some real relief.

First and foremost available are lactase enzyme tablets from BioCare vitamins. These may be marketed as “lactase enzyme”, “lactose intolerance” tablets, or the more general “digestive enzymes” which include other enzymes in addition to lactase. The other enzymes usually aid digestion additionally by also containing enzymes that break down fats, carbohydrates and/or proteins as well as lactase.

Anyone that has been diagnosed as “lactose intolerant” or has stomach upsets after eating dairy products such as milk, cheeses, ice cream, or cream based sauces will definitely be helped by a digestive enzyme or lactase supplement. Our bodies digest milk sugar, or lactose with the help of natural bacteria present in our digestive tract or normal flora.

These bacteria break down the milk sugar so we can digest it with no stomach upset. However many people, especially as they age, lose the ability to produce this bacteria entirely, or just not enough to maintain digestive health, therefore, lose the ability to digest lactose. Children digest milk much more readily than most adults. Many adults are lactose intolerant.

BioCare supplements help with lactose digestion contain the lactase enzyme or the bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus, which breaks down the milk sugar into digestable element. BioCare is a brand that produce a lactase enzyme. Many require you to take a tablet with every meal or some are one a day.

Probiotics are marketed as “good bacteria” for digestive health in a tablet form and contain L. acidophilus and other bacteria that are good normal flora. Yogurt naturally contains L. acidophilus as well as other bacteria that are present naturally in the product or added. Just look for products that say specifically “contains live cultures”. Any one of these products will aid digestive health.

With many people suffering from digestive problems, BioCare have a range of digestive products to help with digestion, lactase enzyme is just one. BioCare Vitamins are recommended by many nutritionists as they are such good quality and deliver the the solution to the problem.

Are You Aware Of The Important Facts About Omega 3 DHA supplements?

Omega 3 DHA, EPA and ALA are the three types of long chain, polyunsaturated essential fats. Since they are not produced naturally in our body, we have to obtain them via food in our daily diet. Of all the three, DHA is of much importance and most of the benefits of omega 3 are related to it.

Omega 3 DHA is found in fishes such as salmon, tuna, and halibut. Because of their top position in the food chain, they have good chances to hoard toxins like mercury, lead, PCBs etc. Because of this concern world has shifted to omega 3 DHA supplements. These supplements not only have higher levels of DHA but also have lesser degree of contamination.

According to many experts and researches, regular consumption of DHA has many benefits for all – male, female, child or adult. It plays an important role at every phase of our life.

Many pregnant females are suggested by their doctors to be on high DHA capsules. This helps in better brain and nervous system growth of the fetus. Newly born babies show less sleep disorder. Later while growing up they have better hand/eye coordination, and good learning and retaining skills.

It has been proven clinically that women who are on omega 3 diet for a long period of time, have less chances of having breast cancer. These women also experience less menstrual pain.

Regular intake of DHA supplements are known for inhibiting the diseases like Dyslexia, Bipolar disorder, Arthritis, etc. It also helps in controlling the cholesterol and blood pressure.

A word of caution here, not all omega3 supplements are effective. Above benefits can be reaped only if correct omega 3 DHA supplement is consumed regularly. Effective one must have under gone molecular distillation process, this ensures the end result is highly concentrated and has lower levels of toxins. It should not have any rancid odor and should smell like ocean water. Studies have shown that supplement consisting of both tuna as well as hoki fish oil increases the benefits of omega3 by two and half folds.

Since, there are many omega 3 DHA supplements available in the market, and all of them may not be effective and give you desired results; you should do your own research before starting on any one of them.

If you wish to learn more on omega3 DHA, its benefits and best supplement that gives you the desired results along with value for money, I invite you to visit my <a target=”_blank” href=”http://omega3brief.com”>website</a>, where I have explained everything in detail.

DHA Supplements – Do I Need Them?

You might disagree but hear me out on this; more than 80% of us are deficient in omega 3 fatty acids and need DHA supplements to bridge the gap. Ill effects of these deficiency may be dormant for some time but believe me they will be evident sooner or later in the form of high cholesterol, sleep disorder, strokes, heart attacks, loss of vision, etc.
So why not take safety measures now – remember prevention is better than cure.

Why DHA Supplements?

DHA is a form of omega 3 fatty acids that are not produced in our body but are essential for various organs of our body to work properly. So we have to take them explicitly in our diet. Vegetarian sources i.e. flaxseeds and oil does not contain DHA but body can convert fatty acids in them to DHA. Since conversion may not always be effective, it is recommended to consume food products rich in DHA like fish.

Since ocean water and hence the fishes in them are not free from toxins, good quality DHA supplement is recommended.

Benefits of DHA supplements

Pregnant women are often told to take these supplements regularly. This helps in reducing chance of developing pre-eclampsia and postpartum depression. This also reduces the chance of premature births and cesarean.

DHA supplements play a vital role in the growth of kids also. It helps in better hand/eye coordination, immunity development, improvement in mental sharpness, comprehension and vocabulary skills.

Human brain is made up of a high percentage of fat. Docosahexaenoic acid commonly known as DHA constitutes of more than 50% of the fat in brain.
Lower levels of DHA can hamper the brain growth and may affect brain performance. This may result in diseases like Dyslexia and Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

People suffering from diabetes tend to have high triglyceride and low HDL levels. DHA helps in lowering triglycerides and apoproteins, cholesterol and blood pressure. They also help in increasing HDL levels.

Best way to prevent heart disease is to eat low-fat and polyunsaturated (DHA is one of such fat) diet. Heart attack occurs when artery supplying blood to heart is blocked. Studies prove that regular intake of DHA supplement breaks up the clots and thus protect us from heart attack and stroke.

As you can see DHA is one such fatty acid that has important for everybody and in various stages of life. Right from the day when we as humans are conceived i.e. fetus, till we grow old passing through various phases of a child and an adult; we need DHA at every stage to prevent some or the other ailment.

In nutshell – you cannot choose to ignore the DHA deficiency. To learn more on the benefits of DHA and <a target=”_blank” href=”http://omega3brief.com”>effective DHA supplements</a>, visit my website.
