Omega 3 Fatty Acids – Find Out Why They Are Important And Where To Find Them

More and more people have now begun to realize how important and beneficial Omega 3 fatty acids are for our health. In fact, this is one of the very few areas where traditional medicine and alternative medicine actually agree. Let’s take a look at how you can best take advantage of these nutrients.

Of all the Omega 3 fatty acids, the following four are the most beneficial:

- Docosahexanoic Acid – DHA

- Eicosapentaenoic Acid – EPA

- Docosapentaenoic Acid – DPA

- Alpha Linolenic Acid – ALA

Let’s talk about each of them, one by one.

ALA – This fatty acid is found most abundantly in Flax seed oil and other vegetable oils. While like other omega 3 fats, this fat also helps in reducing the risk of heart diseases, studies have shown that ALA can lead to increased risk of Macular degeneration. Flax seed oil also oxidizes easily and quickly becomes rancid. So it’s best to stick to the other omega 3 fats instead of this one.

DPA – This fatty acid is an intermediary between EPA and DHA. Its best source is from certain kinds of fish like Salmon, Mackerel, Trout and the Hoki (a New Zealand fish). It is beneficial for the heart, brain, eyes and also reduces inflammation in the body, which helps in reducing the risk of cancer. Still all in all, it plays more of a supportive role to the other two fats we will discuss now.

EPA – This has been the favorite of omega 3 enthusiasts for long. Many major fish oil brands still swear by it and use it as the primary ingredient in their oil. Latest research, however, has shown that the belief on this fat may have been a little misplaced. It’s actually DHA that is the most beneficial of all the omega 3 fatty acids.

DHA – This nutrient has finally begun to get the attention and respect it deserves. The most beneficial of all, it’s also necessary for proper brain development. In fact, almost 30% of the human brain is made up of DHA omega 3 fats only.

All said and done, no single omega 3 fat is sufficient by itself to keep us healthy. What you need is a proper mix of these fats. Your daily dosage of around 500 mg of omega 3 fats should ideally consist of about 50% DHA, 25% EPA and the rest 25% in DPA.

This is the best mix of omega 3 fatty acids that you should look for in any oil you buy.

The Truth about the International Fish Oil Standard

Did you know in order for you to guarantee that you are getting the purist form of DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acid you have to make sure that the oil taken in meets or exceeds the international fish oil standard?  This is a gauge that companies can go by that measures impurity down to the lowest possible contaminant levels that modern machinery can detect.  It is not however an official standard which companies need to go by.

The truth is that there really is no ruling body when it comes to outlining the standards that all omega-3 supplements should meet.  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration lays down the law so far as the contaminant levels for fish as a food source, but omega-3 capsules and other dietary supplements are largely left unregulated.  This is somewhat of a problem.

The international fish oil standard was set by a private organization as a sort of unofficial guideline to give companies something to shoot at when it comes to the level of purity in their nutritional supplements.  There are other guides such as the Council for Responsible Nutrition, European Pharmacopoeia, and the Norwegian Medicinal Standard, but they allow higher levels of contaminants, and don’t even measure toxins such as PCBs.

The reason that such standards need to be set is because of the state that our water is in.  Both freshwater and saltwater fish alike face a tremendous number of contaminants, some of them natural toxins but many of them man-made.  These toxins get into the predator fish, which is what oily species are, and continuously build up to higher levels.

There is a set of rules like the international fish oil standard set out for food fish, but the levels of contaminants are too high, and the levels of toxins in fish are not checked very regularly.  This is one of the reasons that it is not advisable for you to greatly increase the amount of fish in your diet.  The other is that the balance between EPA and DHA fatty acids is off.

In order for you to attain the maximum health benefits from a greater intake of fish oil, you have to ensure that DHA levels are at least twice as high as those of EPA.  Both are necessary in order for you to maintain the highest quality of life, but DHA is just a tad more important.  EPA is the most prominent of the omega fatty acids in fish, and the amount of fish you would have to eat in order to get enough DHA would have your intake of toxins through the roof.

How to Find the Best Fish Oil Capsules

In order to ensure that your body is running on all cylinders, you want to make sure that you are supplementing your diet with the best fish oil capsules possible.  Omega-3 fatty acids have been proven over time to help in the prevention and treatment of a myriad of physical and mental conditions.  The taking of pre-packaged omega-3 DHA supplements are the best way to ensure that you are getting exactly what you need.

The medical community has been telling people for years that they need to include more servings of oily fish in their diet each week.  Though this recommendation has made the fisherman and the fish farms extremely happy, the results that you get from increasing the dietary servings of fish in your diet may not leave you so jovial.  There are some problems with the fish that we eat.

There are primarily two reasons why it is recommended that you try and get your hands on the best fish oil capsules you can find.  One is that it guarantees that you get the optimum balance between DHA and EPA, and the other is that you are safe from the contamination that is often present in the fish that we eat.  Our waters are becoming more and more toxic all the time.

The oily fish are actually included in the class of predator fish, which means that they are primarily meat eaters, and smaller fish are the basis of their diet.  The thing about being a predator fish is that you not only absorb toxins from the water surrounding you, but you also absorb the toxins that came with the food fish.  The larger and higher up on the food chain a predator is the more toxic they become.

What happens with the oils in the best fish oil capsules is that they are screened for mercury, lead, dioxins, PCBs, arsenic, cadmium, and furans.  They are then put through a process known as molecular distillation, and are then re-tested.  Only when the results for these contaminants drop below the minimal levels of detection of standard testing equipment are is the oil allowed to be sold.

It is better for you to use pre-packaged omega-3 DHA formulas than to try and get a balanced dose of omega-3 from eating fish anyway.  The level of EPA in fish is generally much higher than the level of DHA, and the truth is that while EPA is very important for good mental health, DHA offers more benefits overall.  The ratio of DHA to EPA should be at least two to one.

The best fish oil capsules will let you know exactly what it is that you are getting in your capsules, by providing you with a proper Certificate of Analysis for each batch of fish oil tested.  This way you can verify at any time that the formula that you are taking has been tested in a laboratory to ensure the utmost purity.

The purchase of the best fish oil capsules are often far cheaper than eating the fish that could have poisoned you too.

Are Omega 3 and Brain Health Related?

Studies concerning omega 3 and brain function have revealed many things.  First, we know that low levels of the nutrients in the bloodstream are associated with disorders that include depression and schizophrenia.

Second, we know that the gray matter contains a great deal of fat and that about 40% of that fat is DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), a specific omega-3 that seems to be very important in many ways.  Third, we know that supplementation or increased intake of DHA and EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) is associated with reduced symptoms of depression and attention deficit disorders.

Fourth, we know that DHA is essential for normal brain development in the fetus and during infancy.  That’s why you will see DHA-enriched infant formulas and baby foods.  It is already present in breast milk, although mothers should be sure that their intake is adequate, in order to prevent the depletion of their own blood stores and risk depression.

Studies are currently underway concerning the benefits for neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.  The nutrient may be helpful for those conditions, as well.

Research concerning omega 3 and brain trauma is ongoing at Louisiana State University, where doctors are looking at the benefit to patients recovering from stroke.  The idea is that we want to be able to rebuild damaged brain cells and neurons.  In order to do that, we need the right building materials.  DHA is one of the necessary building blocks.

DHA, EPA and other omega3s benefit the entire body by modulating or reducing inflammation.  We know that omega-3s are used by the body to produce less inflammatory molecules than the omega-6s.  Research indicates that omega-3s stimulate the production of molecules that signal the immune system to stop inflammation.

The latest research indicates that fish oil, which is rich in omega-3s, has natural anti-inflammatory activity.  In some cases, a fish oil supplement has as much anti-inflammatory activity as aspirin.

In addition to the studies concerning omega 3 and brain benefits, there have been hundreds concerning the anti-inflammatory benefit to patients suffering from arthritis, lupus, inflammatory bowel disease and other painful conditions.  Fish oil supplements have proven beneficial for people suffering from migraines and cluster headaches, as well.

It is sometimes hard to believe how many benefits are associated with fish oil and the nutrients that it contains.  But, if you think about it, it isn’t really that hard to understand.

The connection between omega 3 and brain function is easy to understand when you know that it DHA is one of the building blocks of neurons.  If you think about man’s traditional diet, you realize that fish was a big part of it.  It has long been referred to as brain food.  We just didn’t know why it was so valuable.

The inflammation connection is more complicated for people that don’t have a scientific background.  Basically, the fats in our diet can contribute to inflammation or reduce it.  We’d prefer to reduce it.

As we learn more about omega 3 and brain function, we may find that there are other benefits.  If you want to think clearly for the rest of your life, take a supplement and hope.

Learn about Fish Oil and Anxiety Prevention

Have you read about this recently?  In the latest review of research concerning fish oil and anxiety, the researchers determined that there is a “clear need for further work in this area”.  If you read enough research reports, you will see that as a very common conclusion.  More research seems always to be needed.

Although benefits have been seen in acne and the psychological problems caused by it, the researchers believe there is a need for “controlled trials”.  As people wait on those trials, they can either continue to suffer or start taking the supplements on their own.

If more people knew about the health benefits associated with specific vitamins and other nutrients, the population might be healthier, in general.  But, maybe, that’s not what the doctors want.

If we all ate right, got plenty of exercise and took some good nutritional supplements on a regular basis, the number of times that we visited our doctors might decrease.  Thinking about it from a purely economical standpoint, that’s not good for business.

No businessman would try to keep customers from coming back.  So, maybe doctors don’t really care if we are healthy or not.

The pharmaceutical companies are certainly not interested in conducting trials concerning fish oil and anxiety.  Why would people buy expensive anti-anxiety meds when a $16 bottle of fish oil would do the same thing?

So, the bottom line is that there probably will never be any controlled trials.  There is simply no where to turn for funding.  The small studies will continue to go on and researchers will continue to report about the positive results.  But, it won’t be enough to convince the mainstream medical community.  They’ll want more studies.  But, we already have a lot to read about.

In one of the studies concerning fish oil and anxiety, researchers found that omega-3 fatty acids cause changes in the brain similar to what found with anti-depressant usage.  Another review, conducted in Spain, outlined a treatment plan for the management of anxiety and personality disorder.  One of their suggestions was the omega-3 fatty acid supplementation.

According to the Global Neuroscience Initiative Foundation (GNIF) in Los Angeles, CA, at least 26% of the American population suffers from some sort of mental disorder.  The actual percentage may be higher, because some cases go unreported for many years.

There is a huge difference between the number of cases in the US and the number in China.  Only 4% of the Chinese population suffers from a mental disorder.  According to the GNIF, the reason for this difference may be a lack of nutrients in the American diet.

GNIF concludes that there is plenty of evidence concerning supplementation with fish oil and anxiety reduction.  They also recommend other nutritional supplements, especially for patients that are bothered by the unwanted side effects of psychoactive medications.

Make no mistake about it.  If you’re convinced that supplementation is a good idea, be sure to do a little comparative shopping.  The amount of omega-3s in the supplements varies greatly, as does the EPA and DHA content.  In studies concerning fish oil and anxiety, the higher the DHA content, the better the results.

How To Enlarge Breasts The Natural Way

One of the natural ways to obtain bigger breasts is through regular exercise. You can enlarge your breast by strengthening the pectoris muscles right below the breast tissue. From doing the exercise consistently your breast will be larger and have more tone. The common exercises include push-ups or moving your arms repeatedly to bring the palms of your hands to meet together.

Another natural breast enlargement method will be the proper bra sizing. The accurate measurement of the bra size is important to getting the right support, comfort and lift that can insert more size to your breasts. Wearing the wrong bra size can have negative impact on your breast growth.

To have more visible bigger breasts you may carry out some make ups to enhance the cleavage. Try applying a touch of bronzer or shimmer between your cleavage and it will add depth on it and making it look much more attractive. The cup enhancers or silicone bra inserts can be used to obtain bigger breasts.

Some ladies prefer to wear the push up padded bra to enlarge their breasts. Push up bras is now easily available in any lingerie stores. They can make your breasts look bigger and with proper push up methods, you can create visible cleavage.

Another natural breast enlargement way is wearing proper fitting clothing. Tight fitting shirts do not enhance the bust lines or the appearance of your breast. It is better to choose clothes that fit perfectly nice and do not show too much of your cleavage.

There are girls who use tape or moleskin to make their breast appear to be bigger. They apply the tape or moleskin across the bottom and lateral part of the breast to push them together and give a perfect lift. This will make your breasts look much bigger and firm besides creating a deeper and more visible cleavage.

The ultimate method towards bigger breasts is the hydration method. Hydration is one important step in any skin regimen. The perfect amount of water intake for a normal person is six to eight glasses of water a day. Sufficient amount of water consumption can help to keep the skin your breast looking much healthier and moisturized.

Choosing the Right Breast Implant

If you’re considering a breast augmentation, you’ve probably read enough to be confused about whether to choose saline implants of silicone gel implants. Your choice of breast implant will depend on your and your doctor’s decisions about what is best for your body. In this article, we’ll compare the different types of implants in use for today’s breast augmentation surgeries.

Saline Implants:
The majority of today’s breast augmentations are done with silicone rubber implants filled with saline. These are currently the only implants available in the US to women who seek cosmetic breast augmentation surgery. Saline implants are either round or teardrop shape. The round implant placed beneath the pectoral muscle or sub pectoral, is perhaps the most commonly utilized combination. The implant is flattened in its upper poles by the overlying muscle producing an appealing breast shape. Rotation of the implant, a potential problem with a teardrop implant is avoided with the round implant beneath the muscle. Teardrop implants are more likely to be utilized when the placement is on top of the muscle beneath the breast tissues or sub glandular. Sub glandular teardrop implants may produce more cleavage as they may be placed a bit closer to the midline, they are less likely to produce unusual breast movements as the pectoral muscles are flexed. Your choice will depend on your idea of the ideal breast shape and your doctor’s preferences.

Saline implants are constructed of a tough outer silicone shell with a saline solution inside. Saline implants also come in either a smooth or a textured variety. Textured saline implants were developed to encourage tissue adherence and to reduce the risk of capsular contracture. Some saline implants also come in an expandable variety in which the saline implant can be enlarged by adding more saline after surgery. The expandable implant allows the overlying tissues to gradually adapt to the new size and is often utilized in breast reconstruction or in cases of marked breast asymmetry. This type of saline breast implant is more expensive than traditional saline implants.

Silicone Gel Implants:
The first implants used in breast augmentation surgery were made of a variety of materials, but in 1964 a silicone rubber envelope filled with a silicone gel implant was utilized and quickly became the standard for breast enlargement. However, silicone gel has not been routinely used in breast augmentations since 1992, when they were banned by the FDA following reports of leakage that was thought to cause tissue diseases. In the years since, many studies have failed to confirm these concerns.

In the years since silicone implants were banned, the cohesive silicone gel implant was developed and is already in use in Europe and Canada and in clinical trials in the US. The difference between silicone gel implants and the original silicone implant is that the gels have a hard, multilayer silicone shell. Inside is a cohesive silicone gel that retains its shape if ruptured because of its consistency.

Saline filled implants may be expected to produce a breast enlargement that is warmer on a cold day, and more likely to demonstrate wrinkles than the silicone gel implants. Gel implants are cooler to the touch but have a consistency that feels much like breast tissue, gel implants are more likely to develop firmness with a constricting fibrous contracture of the scar tissue that forms around the implant . Until the US FDA approves the use of silicone gel implants for breast augmentation, only women who agree to participate in clinical trials can use them.

Your doctor will be an important resource for information and can help you answer any questions that you may have about which type of implant to choose. Once you’ve done your research, asked questions, and found a great doctor, you’re well on your way to enjoying fuller breasts and a more positive self image.

Breast Augmentation Bras: Properly Support Your New Breasts

Breast augmentation is the most common cosmetic procedure in the United States, according to year-end 2007 statistics. As long as the procedure is farily expensive, it is important for women to care of their new breasts properly. Choosing the right bra after breast augmentation can lengthen the time your new breasts retain a youthful appearance.

While a board certified plastic surgeon can dramatically impact the appearance of your breasts, the work can be counteracted if the healing process does not occur properly. Additionally, if you do not take special care of your new breasts, the improvements resulting from the breast augmentation can be significantly reduced.

The top reasons you should consider using specialized breast augmentation bras after breast augmentation:

* Shaping of your breasts: An unnatural appearance can occur with an ill fitting bra. There are special bras such as the Le Mystere No. 9 that are specifically designed to fit your new bustline.

* Prevent of rapid descent – If you choose a poorly fitting bra, a condition known as rapid descent can occur. In this case the breast implant makes the tissue of the breast under the nipple line bigger than that above it. The eventual result can produce a saggy looking breast.

* Cleavage – Breast implants result in breasts which are spaced further apart than natural breasts. The Le Mystere No. 9 bra has a wider connecting strap between the cups to accomodate this feature of augmented breasts.

* Weight of the breast – Many women are unprepared for the weight of their new breasts. If you have lived with smaller breasts prior to breast augmentation, you will have a new experience carrying around the weight of your larger augmented breasts. If not supported properly the weight over time can be uncomfortable.

Choosing the right bra such as the Le Mystere No 9 can help maintain the results of your newly augmented breasts. Review these tips for selecting the right bra after breast augmentation:

* Take the time to discuss bra options thoroughly with your doctor. Any post-surgical bra, especially, should be reviewed and approved by them. Ask your doctor about proper fitting for daily wear bras.

* Visit with a bra expert – Studies show that well over 70% of all women choose and wear bras that are the wrong size. Visit with a bra fitting specialist at least annually to ensure you are wearing the proper size. As your body changes over time, your bra size is likely to change as well.

Breast augmentation requires the investment of a lot of time and money. It is critical that you take the time to properly sure that your investment is well taken care of to ensure a long lasting improvement of your bust line. Neglecting the care of your new breasts can result in disappointing results over time.

Considering breast augmentation? Get all the information you need about the Le Mystere No. 9 bra and more at www.LwGatz.com and their companion blog, www.breastauginfo.com.
