Most Used Method to Lose Weight is Low Carbohydrate Diet

Low carbohydrate diets are not only for people wishing to lose weight. They are a necessary lifestyle for Type II diabetics and those suffering from candiasis (an overgrowth of yeast in the intestinal tract). However, achieving goals for low carbohydrate intake brings with it some discomforting side effects or drawbacks.

Drawbacks and counteraction:

Withdrawal: When sugars are taken from a carbohydrate addict, instant withdrawal symptoms can occur, such as headaches, energy slumps, and malaise.

Cravings: The second stage involves a constant obsession with food. Now that the body has been deprived of excessive carbohydrates, our minds want to eat every hour, waiting for the next snack or meal, with an urge to binge at night.

Hypoglycemia: Worst still, when carbohydrates have been limited, some will go into a severe sugar dip known as hypoglycemia, resulting in the shakes, faintness, and loss of energy, headaches, and a total body slump.

Counteraction: Be aware these situations will occur until the body has stabilized and gotten used to the limitation of carbohydrates. The best way to counteract these side effects is to be prepared with small snacks which break the sugar dips and cravings. When you are prepared, you will not be tempted to grab just any food which may result in extra calories or extra carbohydrates. Having some juice in the fridge will take care of hypoglycemia slumps. One ounce will do.

As for the other symptoms, buy some snack zip-lock bags and pack controlled portions of healthy foods, such as a handful of almonds or peanuts. Fresh raw vegetables sticks are always welcomed. If you want something more substantial, have on hand the highest fiber cereal you can find (Fiber 1 or Original All Bran). A half cup with a half banana or strawberries, with almond milk will satisfy a craving.

Other low carbohydrate snacks can be in the way of a boiled egg, and ounce of low fat cheese, some yogurt with blueberries and flaxseed meal, or even a mixture of hot water, flaxseed meal, and a tablespoon of peanut butter. It actually satisfies and soothes the stomach. Include in your diet also, lots of seeds, nuts, and beans and legumes. They are healthy and contain lots of fiber.

Chronic fatigue:

Carbohydrates provide quick energy and jumpstart the body’s metabolism. The secret is to eat every three hours so the body is constantly fuelled with little shots of carbohydrates every few hours. Spend time on finding snacks which

Contain less than 20 grams of carbohydrates. Kashi makes a wonderful granola bar. Apples are great for a pick-me-up, providing good fiber. As are all nuts and seeds, for constant energy. With a schedule for eating, it will counteract the side effects of sugar dips and constant fatigue.

Nutrition deficit:

Limiting carbohydrates also limits maximum nutrition from foods. By eating super foods which provide the most energy and nutrients, yet are lowest in calories, fats, and carbohydrates gives you the most bangs for your bucks. Concentrate on brightly colored fruits and vegetables. They are high in antioxidants, Vitamin C, and minerals; especially magnesium and Vitamin K. Examples are green/red peppers, carrots, artichoke, broccoli, spinach, etc. The best fruit to eat which are low in carbohydrates and also low on the glycemic index are berries, cantaloupe, kiwi, nectarines/peaches. Nuts and seeds provide necessary essential oils which are crucial to good health. Of course, if you love beans, cook them with lean pork or beef as they are high in fiber and provide complex carbohydrates, along with lots of vitamins and minerals.

Protein substitution:

The problem with being on a low carbohydrate diet is one must up the consumption of protein. Eating too much protein is taxing on your organs. It takes longer for proteins to be broken down. That’s why they say protein will keep you fuller longer, but meanwhile you may be hungry waiting for the protein to digest. Not to mention the long term side effects of eating saturated fats along with meats, and the potential to clog your arteries.

The solution is to always eat lean cuts of meat and to replace with protein alternatives such as tofu, turkey breast, low fat cheese, unsweetened yogurt, cottage cheese, and even eggs. Eggs have been maligned for years but in actuality is considered the perfect protein food, along with omega oils, with under 100 calories per egg, no carbohydrate, and with 2/3 good cholesterol as opposed to the other 1/3 bad. So decide for yourself its worth

Organic Goji Berry – a True Miracle Gifted by the Nature

There’s much ado among dietary food supplement manufacturers about promoting organic Goji berry, a health fad that has been getting much attention in recent years among consumers ever-conscious of their well-being. What these food supplement manufacturers are apparently trying to establish is that the products they are marketing are pesticide-free. This after the US FDA seized some Goji berry shipments containing high levels of insecticide some years ago. These shipments came from China where Goji berry is more popularly known as wolfberry.

For its part, the Chinese government is trying to erase the stigma of the pesticide issue on their Goji berry exports. The Chinese government has been issuing “Green Certificates” to wolfberry farmers purportedly a standard similar to the US Department of Agriculture’s “USDA Organic” certification. There’s a great interest for China to keep its organic Goji berry or wolfberry farms compliant with standards acceptable in the US and other Western export markets.

Goji berry farming is a major source of income in many places in China’s territory with vast plantations in such areas as Tibet, Mongolia, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in north-central China and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region of western China. At Ningxia, Goji berry has been cultivated for more than 600 years and contributes over 40% of China’s annual total harvest of about 35 million kg. With such a resource, China has become the world’s top exporter of Goji berry which has been generating annual export revenue amounting to about $150 million.

Goji berry is a significant crop in China because of its wide usage in culinary and medicinal applications. The fruit itself can be consumed directly when dried and added to rice congee. It is also one of the ingredients in potent Chinese soups. The berries could be boiled and brewed as herbal tea, and likewise processed into package tea products. Some Chinese wines are also made from Goji berry or in combination with grapes. Beer is another beverage product that a Chinese company has found Goji berries suitable for brewing, while another enterprising venture produced instant coffee from these berries.

Goji berry is also important in traditional Chinese medicine. Tea brewed from the plant’s leaves and root bark is used by Chinese herbalists to treat inflammation and certain types of skin disorders. Other Chinese medicinal applications often cited for Goji berry involve therapeutic remedies to improve circulation, sexual function and fertility, and to protect the liver as well as boost the immune system.

Dietary food manufacturers have taken note of these supposed health benefits derived from Goji berry and have used them extensively to promote their products as health food supplements and weight-loss solutions. Product promotions are often focused on the nutrient content and anti-oxidant properties, particularly those that could be found in organic Goji berry. Indeed, there are many pythochemicals and macronutrients to be found in this fruit. For the macronutrients, Goji berry can provide significant portions of a person’s needed carbohydrates, dietary fiber, fat and protein. For micronutrients and pytochemicals, the berry contains 11 essential dietary minerals, 18 amino acids and six essential vitamins, all indicating why there has been a great interest in Goji berry.

Kidney Stone Cure – Ways to Get Rid of Kidney Stones

Most importantly, kidney stones form because the bladder isn’t emptied completely so it’s very important to drink plenty of liquid through out the day to help prevent stones. By drinking at least two quarts of liquid each day of purified water, juice or tea, your body will be able to flush your bladder more effectively eliminating those dreaded kidney stones. Recently, vitamin A deficiency has been linked to kidney stones as well, by eating lots of carrots, yams, peaches, and cantaloupe or supplementing with vitamin A.
What are the symptoms of kidney stones?

Some people may not have any symptoms, but most have at least some, such as:-
*Severe pain in the kidneys or lower abdomen, which may move to the groin; pain may last for minutes or hours, followed by periods of relief .
*Nausea and vomiting
*Burning and frequent urge to urinate
*Fever, chills and weakness
*Cloudy or foul-smelling urine
*Blood in the urine
*Blocked flow of urine.

The same goes for increasing your water intake daily. Some medications and health conditions require a smaller amount of water to be consumed, regularly. Therefore it is always in your best interest to first speak with your doctor. Increase the amount of physical activity you get on a daily basis. Regular exercise is beneficial for your overall health, but it also has its benefits as a kidney stones home treatment.

Several manufactures of Natural vitamin supplements offer kidney stone formulas you might look into as well to help ease existing pain or prevent future stones. Kidney stones risk can also be reduced by consuming juniper berries or adding lemon juice to your water. Lemon juice helps prevent crystallization in the kidneys. Teas such as thyme tea and knotgrass tea are good for dissolving mineral build-up in the kidneys as well.

Reduce salt intake – insoluble salts can form crystals when deposited in the bladder and can also form while inside the kidneys. As the salts crystallize the chance of it combining with other minerals will promote the formation of kidney stones or worse into becoming large kidney stones.

If you know that kidney stone attacks run in the family, make sure you use good preventive measures, such as increasing your non-sugared, non-caffeine fluid intake and avoiding excessive dairy consumption, especially at night. Never intentionally work your body into a state of severe dehydration, which may occur if you work long hours at a physically demanding job or spend too much time in the heat. Always take plenty of water breaks when working excessive hours. Those who are prone to kidney stone attacks should never be far from two things- a good water supply and a bathroom.

To avoid kidney stones it is the best practice to maintain a healthy balanced diet. Avoid foods that are sources of kidney stone build up. Simple guidelines, just stay away from too much intake of anything salty, sugary, and avoid too much calcium. We need only enough amounts of those food mentioned. Moreover, eat a lot of fiber-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables since these can aid in flushing out the kidney stones.

Your Prostate and Aging

The frequent need to relieve the bladder can have life-changing effects. Mike is 65 years old and his prostate is affecting his life. Social events are curtailed, no more family day-picnics, or chaperoning his grandkids on Halloween night as they go trick or treating. Most of his days he spends at home, tired during the day and wishing he could just get the rest he knows he needs. A gregarious man by nature, Mike has gradually taken to a life of seclusion.

This kind of scenario can be very common to many men over 50 years of age. Mike finds he cannot even drive for more than an hour without having to stop at a gas station.

Mike was a foreman who retired from active work about ten years ago. He has enjoyed robust health. Now approaching his “senior” years, Mike complains of frequent needs to urinate. Many men experience increased frequency in urination as age advances. It could be due to age or could be associated with prostate health. Nighttime is worse and Mike hardly gets any sleep. During the day he is groggy, irritable and finds it hard to concentrate or have energy to do the things he once enjoyed.

Like Mike, many men accept this to be a normal phase of growing older and may not consult a doctor. The truth is, only a medical checkup will be able to tell you whether your bladder is overworking due to old age or because of an aging prostate.

Get Proactive on Prostate Health!

Prostate health and aging are primary concerns in men’s health today. Statistics show that prostate complaints among older men are rising and with more serious subsequent complications rising as well. Health experts believe that statistics are rising because men are not taking enough proactive measures to support prostate health as they grow older.

Medical experts are now recommending that men over 40 or approaching their 40s take proactive measures (including prostate supplement) for maintaining prostate health. Many of the factors related to poor prostate health are indeed, controllable. Even with genetic factors at play, early detection and proactive measures are critical for supporting prostate health.

Here are a few things you should be doing to become proactive in supporting prostate health:

  • Regular physicals are recommended which include annual or even bi-annual prostate exams.
  • Dietary modifications include adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet and limiting your intake of red meat and high-fat foods.
  • Regular physical exercise. Obesity and prostate complications can go hand-in-hand. It is important to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle and keep at an optimal weight for your height and age. In addition to regular exercise, Kegel exercises strategically target the muscle tone in this area.

Prostate Supplements that Contain Beta Sitosterol

As a proactive measure, taking prostate supplements that contain beta sitosterol is popular and known to be effective. Beta sitosterol is a phytosterol found in plants. It is present in foods like saw palmetto berries, nuts, and avocados. It is not easy to get a therapeutic dose of beta sitosterol through diet alone. We would have to eat 4 lbs of saw palmetto berries a day! Prostate supplements are a good way to get a nutritional dose of beta sitosterol.

  • Men over 40 should consider taking Beta sitosterol as a nutritional prostate supplement for supporting a healthy prostate.
  • Men who suffer from prostate complaints should consider taking prostate supplements containing Beta sitosterol to alleviate many of the discomforts associated with an aging prostate.

Beta sitosterol for prostate health has been well researched for more than 50 years. Several clinical studies and scientific reports support the efficacy of beta sitosterol in prostate health support. This nutrient supports healthy urinary functions and flow as well as healthy functions of the prostrate.

New Vitality is a health supplements company. It develops beta sitosterol supplements which are carefully formulated under the guidance of an elite panel comprised of renowned doctors, nutritionists, chemists and researchers. Whether you want a Prostate supplement, pet health supplement, a personal care product or a health care product, New Vitality is a one-stop shop for all needs.

Cassis Berry The New King of the Superfruits

What’s the latest in the new line of superfruits? We’ve already had the Acai and Maqui Berries make their grand entrance into the world of superfruits, and now market experts predict the Cassis Berry is all set to tantalize palates and quench America’s thirst for newer and better superfruits to add to the wide array of superfruits that already exist in the market today.

The Cassis berry has an intriguing history. In the early 1900s, cultivation of the Cassis berry was banned in America. Though very popular back then, the Cassis berries were wrongly considered a threat to the logging industry. As a result, cultivation of these rich berries was discontinued for almost a century! In 2003, New York was the first state to right the wrongs done to this benevolent berry. The ban was lifted and other states have quickly followed suit. Because of this, Cassis berries are not as well known in the United States as they are in Europe where they enjoy tremendous popularity and status. Americans are just beginning to discover the wonders of their new berry friend.

The Cassis berry or Black Currant as it is often called is a native shrub (ribes nigrum) of Northern Europe and Northern Asia. The berries have a sweet, astringent flavor, similar to that of black grapes. The berries grow in clusters and have a thin skin. Underneath the skin is a gelatinous, nutrient-dense green pulp.

With a deep purple outer-coloring, the Cassis berry doesn’t appear to offer much more than the Acai or Maqui berry. But don’t let looks fool you. Underneath its ordinary appearance lies an incredible array of nutrients ranging from a wide assortment of B vitamins, Vitamin C, and essential minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and zinc. It’s also got a substantial amount of fiber, amino acids and essential fatty acids called gamma linolenic acid. Just 100 grams of the Cassis berry offers 300 percent of the daily RDA of Vitamin C in our diet! In fact, Cassis berries were used as a substitute for oranges in World War II, with a Vitamin C potency four times that of oranges! Rich in anthocyanins and twice the antioxidant power of blueberries, the Cassis berry is all set to compete for the next superfruit crown.

How different is the Cassis berry from the Acai and Maqui?

Taste. The Cassis definitely fares best in taste.

Nutrition. All three pack a pretty mean punch of essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fiber (100 gms of Cassis berry can provide 30 percent of the RDA of dietary fiber). The Cassis and Acai, however, contain essential fatty acids which make them good for heart health as well.

Antioxidant potency. The Maqui still reigns, but the antioxidant potencies of both the Cassis and the Acai are not to be overlooked, considering they are still higher than many other superfruits.

Scientific research. The Cassis Berry has been around in Europe and Asia and so extensive research is available. Preliminary data shows that the Cassis Berry is good for bone health with an ideal calcium and magnesium ratio of 2:1. Specific anthocyanins in the Cassis berry show positive influence on heart health and eye health. It also exhibits anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties. The uniqueness of this berry is its benefit to brain health. Anthocyanins in the Cassis berry are believed to act as neuro-protective agents. Traditionally, the Cassis berry is known to be a detoxifier. It cleanses the tissues of oxidative stress and also stimulates liver functions. It is also known to relieve menopausal symptoms and improve venous circulation. Even the leaves of the Cassis berry have medicinal properties and are used in herbal tea preparations.

Datamonitor notes the rise in new products containing the Cassis berry in recent years ever since the ban on its cultivation was lifted. This demand is linked to consumer hype for antioxidant-rich superfruits. Having been hidden from our eyes for 100 years though, Americans know very little about the Cassis berry. More public awareness campaigns and promotional literature detailing the rich health benefits of the Cassis berry could help in driving the Cassis berry to greater heights of glory.

The Cassis berry market has an extremely high potential for growth. It can be used as an individual supplement or combined with other ingredients. The end-product can be manufactured as capsules, tablets, powders or liquids. This leaves open opportunity for cassis berry manufacturers to cash in on yet another great superfruit!

Nutricap Labs is a full service vitamin supplement manufacturing service. We primarily manufacture nutritional tablets, capsules, powders, liquids and creams, but we also offer label and packaging design services and order fulfillment services to our customers.

Get Anti-Oxidants in Your Diet – Three Simple Ways to Become Healthy in 2010

Who else is sick and tired of FEELING sick and tired? Do you find yourself lethargic….dragging and simply unable to face the daily demands of your day? If you are anything like I used to be, the simple truth is the ONLY thing that get’s you UP and moving is a big 20 ounce cup of coffee in the morning, right? It’s true…and for me, as I grew older, the feeling of NOT being as energized, enthusiastic and “ready to go” each and every morning started to really drag me down.

The truth? Like all great self help style axioms…it wasn’t until I decided to really DO something about it, that the changes started. (and fast!) And after spending far too many hours READING about all of the successful strategies OTHER people were using to become happier, healthier and YOUNGER to boot….I decided to implement some of the same ones for myself. I STARTED with my diet….and what I PUT into my body on a daily basis, and amazingly it was truly ALL I needed to feel a decade younger in 30 days or less.

Curious to know what worked so well for me? Read on as we take a closer look below!

Filed Under: An Avalanche of Anti-Oxidants

A focus on fruit!

Quite simply, as crazy as it sounds….this was the primary change I made in my diet, and the most profound difference in how I felt on a day to day basis. The DARKER the fruit…..the more of it I ate. (and the better I felt!) Blackberries, blueberries, red grapes and cherries, strawberries and even a pomegranate or two..:-) These red and black berries are very high in anthocyanins and phyto-nutrients, and while you wouldn’t THINK you could feel noticeably better so quickly…I truly felt “lighter”, leaner and FAR more alert and agile, especially in the mornings where caffeine had been my savior!

Going Green!

Yes, I followed directions and added a heaping helping of those green leafy vegetables I’ve been avoiding since being a kid for 30+ years…:-) Broccoli and Spinach, kale and even some sprouty looking things I couldn’t identify again if you paid me! The truth? Green veggies are a fantastic way of getting a whole host of anti-oxidants and micro nutrients into your body (and blood stream) and the difference in how I felt after a week and a half of this, was truly profound!

Sexy Supplements:

The BEST thing I believe I added….were things I simply had NOT ever even heard of, or could even pronounce straight out of the gate! I started to drink a glass (or two..:-) of red wine per day for the Resveratrol content, which is thought to be a potent phyto-nutrient, AND I started on an acai berry supplement as well, which not only tasted great, but also was offering MORE anthyocyanins, anti-oxidants, trace minerals, omega fatty acids and other important “soul food” than just about everything else combined! (I did however cut back on the red wine…..and tried to get more Resveratrol through supplements, and grape extract as well)

The bottom line?

The truth? The acai fruit is actually over 85% inedible! But the acai pulp is one of the most mineral rich, anti-oxidant dense super foods in the world. It is found most abundantly in the Amazonian rain forest, and locals and indigenous cultures in this region have been using acai for many years for all SORTS of health and social benefits. With an ORAC content (the metric used to rate anti-oxidant absorbency in our food) that EXPONENTIALLY exceeds just about every other fruit under the sun, acai is actually a delicacy that is eaten in many different ways…breakfast, lunch and dinner in many of these small south American cultures, and is treated as a “gift from the gods” to boot!

Western news cameras have captured a cacophony of creative ways that acai is prepared in these areas….and many believe it treats any and all ailments from sexual dysfunction to more serious age related diseases and disorders.

Honestly? There has been so much HYPE about the benefits of acai, it’s difficult to determine just what is true….and what is hype! What we do know is this: Acai is rich in phyto-nutrients, fatty acids, amino acids, trace minerals and anthocyanins….which many medical professionals believe are the KEY compounds in the fight against aging and many associated diseases.

As a matter of fact, this is one of the key reasons that so much recent attention has been focused on “super foods”, with blueberries, pomegranates, spinach, broccoli and all deeply colored fruits and vegetables becoming such an integral part of a recommended healthy diet.

Anthocyanins are found in very high quantities in acai fruit….and is the leading reason, in our view, why so many celebrity (and everyday) health and wellness experts have gone “ga-ga” about acai berry!
